We all have those days- where you feel unproductive. Perhaps you woke up late and almost was late to work. Maybe you get up and realize you’re out of coffee. Or maybe you get up like me- ready to take on the day, be super mom and mompreneur, and your kids start off the day in an hour-long fight. It is SO easy to want to give up in those times and think “you know what? I’ll just start over again tomorrow!” It’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you are drowning in emails, laundry, or meetings.
Why You Should Push Through When You Don’t Want To
I know, it’s hard to push through and get in that workout, write that blog post or schedule that party when you just don’t feel like it. I am a firm believer in things being “meant to happen” so it was very easy for me to dismiss a day because things just seemed off. But what I missed out on was an opportunity for me to pursue my dreams and goals AND the opportunity to change my family’s future. Our economy is totally different now than it was even 10 years ago and being debt-free is the exception to the rule. If you’re like me, you have student loans looming and you’re wondering how on Earth you’re going to pay them off.
You hold the keys to changing all that if you choose. Don’t just sit back and see everyone else succeeding. Don’t watch your favorite mom bloggers and assume that their lives are so much different than yours and that’s how they found success. In the last few years, I have gotten to know several bloggers that I follow personally and they are real people with their own struggles. Their struggles may just be different from yours.
3 Things You Can Do To Stop Feeling Unproductive
So what can you do when times get tough and you just feel like saying “I don’t wanna”?
1. Keep your mindset positive- I am so fortunate to be surrounded by my tribe who inspires me to keep going but challenges me to keep going. Try listening to podcasts of thought leaders you resonate with- some of my favorite gurus are Marie Forleo, Jilley Sue, Kim Garst and Amy Schmittauer. Get started on periscope and find people in your niche to listen to. Focus on self-development and change your thought patterns- “if they can do it you can do it”.
2. Plug into your community – With the rise of social media, there’s so many places for you to find people who have the same goals. Are you a blogger? Find a blogging group on Facebook. Are you in direct sales? Ask around and find a meetup to network with. Are you staying at home with the kids and need to talk to an adult? Join a mom group and arrange a playdate. Sometimes just finding out you’re not the only person feeling the way you do can do wonders for your motivation.
3. Take a break- Take it from me- trying to force the issue when you are tired or stressed will NOT get you sales, views or whatever your goal is. In my case, it only frustrated me more. Sometimes you do need a period to regroup and to make sure what you are pushing for is really what you want and is best for your family.
