I love Twitter. It is no secret to most of my friends and family that up until about 2 years ago if you wanted to find me online- go look for me on Twitter first!
Don’t get me wrong- I love Facebook and I think it can really be helpful for connecting with old friends, family members who don’t live nearby and making business connections. Where I don’t love Facebook is the drama that seems to revolve around it at times (“did you see Jane’s post? Was she talking about me?”) and that if you are a person trying to grow a business it can take you awhile to truly make those connections you desperately need (Hello Facebook pages).
Enter Twitter- why I love Twitter can be summed up in 3 statements:
- It moves much faster than Facebook- where it might take that person you want to host a party several days to respond to your message (“It went to my other folder”) Twitter moves as fast as a text message to your friend.
- It is only 140 characters– this is now one of my favorite features.
As a mom, sometimes all I can get out is 140 characters before a diaper change, fight intervention, or nap time.
So Twitter, I think, plays very well for moms who need to make connections but can’t sit on their phone and wait for responses.
- It is super easy to make NEW connections- I think Facebook is great and has changed our world for the better but let’s face it- it is SUPER hard to make new connections on Facebook! From people unfriending you (hello, political season) to Facebook asking you if you really know this person in real life before you send a friend request. It is pretty locked down to family and friends and sometimes you can connect with their warm market.
Twitter doesn’t have this problem in that you use a hashtag of your choice and you can hop in someone’s conversation and it’s OK! For me, this speeds up the rate that you can connect with someone which is super helpful for people looking to grow their businesses fast.
Manage Flitter came in to my life about 2 weeks ago due to the recommendation of Jilley Sue in one of her ultimate webinars. It helps you easily manage your Twitter profile (follows and unfollows) but where Manage Flitter really shines is you can connect very quickly with people who follow someone who is a key influencer in your industry.
This has seriously been a timesaver- using the phone apps can be tedious when it comes to managing your accounts and when you build your Twitter following it is nearly impossible to figure out who unfollowed you and who you may not follow.
So…what’s Manage Flitter?
Manage Flitter also can help you sort accounts that are inactive, potentially spam, and show you who’s more likely to follow you back (without all the searching on Twitter for connections).
There is a cost to Manage Flitter ($12 a month for a pro version, but they do offer a free version as well). But for me, it’s been well worth it. I have gained around 400 followers in less than 2 weeks and I have already made some great connections. Best of all, I’m spending less time looking for people to connect with which gives me more time to do other things!
Are you on Twitter? Would love to connect with you! You can find me at @alissiahaggard.
