Graphic design has always been one of my biggest challenges in social media. Artist, I am not. So when I started exploring this world of social media- I did not want to go into anything where I would have to make a picture, design a picture, draw a picture. It was NOT for me.
When I started Ultimates, one of the first new mentors (besides Jill) that I began following was Sue B. Zimmerman aka “The Instagram Expert”. You can find Sue’s excellent blog here. She also scopes regularly on Periscope and is always on #ScopePassSundays helping others get their Instagrams looking amazing. Sue makes everything sound super easy and made me want to give Instagram another shot from a business angle.
So where does a graphic design inept person go to make their pictures look cool?
Here’s a great place to start:
WordSwag– my fabulous sponsor in my direct sales company introduced me to this beauty. It is only currently available on iPhone/iPad. What I love about it- it has amazing typography that you can pick to match your brand, the quote, or the picture you choose. WordSwag has solid backgrounds that you can pick from and it is also powered by Pixabay for free stock images. The great part is that it takes literally minutes to use the app to create a graphic, it looks great and it transfers over seamlessly to share on any social network you choose.
PicMonkey– When I first heard of PicMonkey, my first thought was not for me and then I thought it was too expensive to warrant me paying for. I am here to confess that my opinion on PicMonkey has changed. In Ultimates, Jill walked us through all PicMonkey can do and made a believer out of me.
PicMonkey runs less than $5/mo and it’s $33 (last I looked for the whole year) and where PicMonkey really shines is it helps you make Facebook covers, posts and most importantly can help you in branding yourself which really is invaluable in the fast paced social media world.
Typorama– This is another iPhone app (costs around $1.99) and has some of the same features that WordSwag does. Where it differs from WordSwag is you can actually place your own watermarks on your pictures. It also has more variety of typography to select from (a fun feature is that you can click a font type multiple times and change the look of the font). Typorama also features the ability to size your images depending on the social network you are posting them from.
So there are my top 3 favorite ways to begin creating your own images fast and on the go. They have been a huge timesaver to me and also helped me begin forming my own branding and identity on sites like Instagram.
